What is an Air end?

There are several different names rotary screws used in compressor machines into which oil is injected. The names screw block, screw block, block, oil-lubricated screw block, airend, air end and rotary screw are the most commonly used. Where industrial processes are involved, compressed air is almost always required. Air ends are compressor components that are essential for the production of compressors and other compressed air system components. There are different types of technologies for producing air under pressure, such as piston, diaphragm, vane, Z-screw, liquid ring and turbo compressors. Each of these technologies has its own advantages and disadvantages. The screw element, often referred to as the block screw, is the most important part of an air compressor. The end of the block screw compressor is the most vital component of the whole machine. It is in this part of the machine that the mechanical compression of the material actually takes place. The screw compressor air end relies on this component as its central nervous system.

These compressors maintain a constant air flow, despite varying pressures. They provide a steady, non-pulsating air flow because the process is continuous. In addition, they have low vibration, low maintenance and long life.

The air end for compressors provides high quality compressed air at low speed, which reduces energy consumption and improves performance. The integrated design includes an oil filter and control valve, reducing the number of external components and hoses, physical space and maintenance. The fail-safe shaft seal ensures high levels of quality and reliability, reducing the need for compressor downtime.

How does an air end work?

Two screws can be found inside the compressor element, each rotating in the opposite direction. The term "positive displacement" describes the type of compressor that is the screw compressor, which means that the air is physically compressed into a smaller space by an external force.

In the case of the rotary screw or airend, the air is trapped in the space between the two rotors. The rotors are uniquely designed to achieve the highest possible levels of efficiency and performance. The term "male" refers to one of the rotors, while "female" refers to the other. Air is drawn in on one side (at low temperature and pressure), where it is compressed and held between the rotors before being expelled on the other side (hot and high pressure). This compression requires power, which is often provided by a large electric motor.

Oil-injected screw compressors and oil-free screw compressors are the two main categories of screw compressors. Because they are the most cost-effective option, oil-injected screw compressors are the dominant type in the market. Oil-free screw compressors are used in industries such as food processing and chemical plants, which require the compressed air to be 100% oil-free.

They are able to operate at any time, day or night, 365 days a year. Before needing a complete overhaul, a screw element has a standard life of about 40,000 operating hours in normal operation.
